Over the late August Bank Holiday weekend, David Newey, Procurement Manager for Berkeley Homes South East London cycled from the centre of London to the South Cornish coast with three friends.

They aimed to do this over 2 ½ days, leaving at lunchtime on Friday 28th August from Big Ben and cycling 80 miles to Winchester before dark on day one. They then set off early the next morning for a epic 120 mile ride down to Tiverton in Devon. This left 100 miles of the remaining, with the riders finishing in Portscatho, Cornwall, on Sunday night. This was a massive challenge for four amateur cyclists, especially against the prevailing wind and with the hilliest sections of Devon and Cornwall towards the end of the challenge!

The funds raised were donated to Shelter and matched funded by the Berkeley Group to the Berkeley Foundation.

Shelter is the UK's largest housing and homelessness charity. We have invested nearly half a million pounds in a wide range of services which prevent people losing their home.

Shelter's Housing Advisors provide individual support for people desperately struggling with debt, disrepair or mortgage and rent arrears. Without them, thousands more children and their families would lose their homes. 25% of Shelter's helpline calls are referred to their Housing Advisers for urgent attention.
