On 12th of September, four subcontractors from Stanmore Place, a Berkeley Homes North East London development, travelled to Scotland to participate in the Ben Nevis Charity Challenge.
Team Stanmore set off at 6:29am. Thanks to the weeks of training, they completed the ascent and descent of Ben Nevis in six and a half hours, including the walk to and from base camp.
Once they had returned to their starting point it was a quick change into cycling gear and onto the bikes. The first 15 mile bike ride was very tough and a number of difficult hills along the route ensured the team were feeling the strain of their earlier hike. After completing the cycle in one hour 40 minutes, it was on to the canoeing section of the challenge.
The team made impressive headway and achieved the third quickest time of the day, but there was no rest as they were straight back onto their bikes, this time completing a ten mile ride in one hour 15 minutes.
Team Stanmore crossed the finish line in nine hours 53 minutes, meaning that they finished 17th out of 48 teams. The team would like to thank everyone that donated money to the Berkeley Foundation. A total of £2,692.50 was raised which will be distributed to the charities the Foundation supports.
The Berkeley Foundation supports young people, their families, and their communities. We work in four key areas: homes, jobs, skills and care.
