This was the second St George 5-a-side Football tournament and the weather was firmly on our side. St George's A team battled Briggs & Forrester in the final, with Briggs & Forrester emerging as victors for a second year running. A hog-roast and drinks were on offer after the tournament, but the main focus was the astonishing £27,500 raised for SPEAR. Stuart Neville, CEO of SPEAR, gave a speech on the work they do with homeless people in South-West London.
With our help, SPEAR supports about 600 people a year. Funding from the Berkeley Foundation has recently paid for part of the salary of a Skills Development Officer, helping 64 homeless people receive training and improve their numeracy and literacy skills.
Meanwhile, our fundraising has focused around SPEAR's Big Snooze which takes place each autumn. Staff from St George have braved the elements and slept rough for the night, showing their support for this fantastic charity.
