The St James Summer Party, in July 2014 was held on Battersea Barge, next to the Riverlight project, kindly provided to St James for free. The event had an 'Around the World' theme, which saw many staff dressed as Mexicans, Germans and other nationalities. The prize for best costume went to the 'Where's Wally' team. The 75 staff that attended took part in a tough quiz and the 'The Sauerkrauts' beat the competition to win. £1,145 was raised for the Vauxhall City Farm, the designated charity of St James.
Their objective is to use the setting of an urban farm and close interaction with animals to run educational, recreational and therapeutic projects. These include tours and workshops, offsite outreach visits, and a Young Farmers Club.
At the beginning of 2014, the farm became the designated charity of St James - part of the Berkeley Group. Staff are being encouraged to support the farm by becoming a 'Friend of the Farm' or taking part in the 'Adopt an Animal' scheme. St James will be helping to make tangible improvements to the farm, such as upgrading the perimeter fencing and helping with electrical works. Employee volunteering days and a range of fundraising events are also in the pipeline.
