Oarsome Chance

Oarsome Chance offers alternative education for young people in Gosport and Havant, using outdoor sports and practical workshop training to engage them in learning.

Through the Skills for Positive Futures funding programme, Oarsome Chance has designed and piloted a new extended support programme for young people aged 8-14 from Gosport. A high proportion of the charity's beneficiaries are at risk of school exclusion and a majority of them are experiencing mental health problems.

Many of them have an ingrained negative response to any form of education, and can become entrenched in a defensive cycle. In order to counteract this, Oarsome Chance has a structure that allows security, and feelings of safety, but also the flexibility, to adapt support to the individual student’s needs.
