Elmbridge Rentstart provides housing and support for people in Elmbridge and Runnymede who are experiencing homelessness or sofa-surfing.
The Charity offers a guaranteed rent product for private landlords by taking on property management while providing ongoing tenancy support to tenants. In response to the housing challenges facing young people and the unwillingness of landlords to rent to unemployed young tenants, Elmbridge Rentstart wants to enhance its provision for young people helping them to access suitable accommodation in the private rented sector and provide them with tailored support over two years.
With the support of Berkeley Foundation and other partners, Elmbridge Rentstart will develop its targeted youth work, piloting new, enhanced youth programmes around employment and mental health. A new Support Worker with lived experience of homelessness will be recruited to set up a series of workshops and focus groups. 175 support sessions will be delivered, covering tenancy responsibilities, budgeting and registering for benefits, and some 'softer skills' sessions will be piloted. The project aims to enable young people to settle into the private rental sector and to access work, education or volunteering.
