The Harlequins Foundation uses sport to tackle inequality, poor health and the challenges facing the most vulnerable in society through education, entrepreneurism and skills development.
METTLE is the Harlequins Foundation's overarching mental health campaign. Through the Harlequins network and brand the charity aims to raise awareness, challenge the stigma surrounding mental health and build mental resilience. With funding from Berkeley Foundation, the METTLE project will be delivered in nine Richmond-based schools over a ten-week period.
The young people will work with Harlequin's trained coaches through a series of workshops and accompanying workbook, which covers a range of topics including managing emotions, food and mood, and forming positive relationships, underpinned by the values of rugby, all designed to ultimately improve their emotional well-being and mental health. The programme also includes useful information for teachers and parents.
