Oarsome Chance offers alternative education for young people in Gosport and Havant, using outdoor sports and practical workshop training to engage them in learning.
With funding from Berkeley Foundation, Oarsome Chance will design and pilot a new extended support programme for young people aged 8-14 from Gosport. 90% of the charity's existing beneficiaries are at risk of school exclusion and a majority of them are experiencing mental health problems.
Oarsome Chance will work closely with Havant & East Hants Mind to develop a programme of additional activities aimed at supporting young people's mental health. The charity aims to upskill its staff in order to broaden the range of support offered to its young people.
The programme will be evaluated in its third year and the charity plans to share its learning with other organisations.
