We’re delighted to announce the renewal of our long-standing Strategic Partnership with Lord’s Taverners, with a new £600,000 commitment over the next three years to support the award-winning Super 1s disability cricket programme, as well as funding cricket delivery in SEND schools across the country.
The announcement was made at the annual Super 1s Impact Awards on 6 October, which recognised the achievements of the young people, families, volunteers and partners who make the programme possible.
Since the partnership began in 2013, the Berkeley Foundation has invested more than £3 million in Super 1s, helping the programme grow from supporting just 60 young people in London to reaching more than 2,000 participants across England, Scotland and Wales today.
Super 1s provides free, inclusive cricket opportunities for young people with disabilities, helping participants develop confidence, independence, teamwork skills, friendships and a sense of belonging through sport. Sessions are adapted to meet individual needs, ensuring every young person can take part in a safe and supportive environment.
The renewed funding will support delivery of the programme across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex and Warwickshire, while also creating new opportunities for young people to progress within the sport and develop skills that benefit them beyond cricket.
Speaking at the celebration event, Piers Clanford, Chairman of the Berkeley Foundation, said:
"Over the years, we have seen first-hand the life-changing impact Super 1s has for young people with disabilities. Through cricket, participants build confidence, independence, friendships and a genuine sense of belonging. We are delighted to continue our support and look forward to seeing Super 1s go from strength to strength in the years ahead."
At the Impact Awards, winners were highlighted for showing excellent dedication and resilience through their Super 1s participation. You can learn more about them in these videos:
