We are proud to announce a new partnership with Mission EmployAble, a pioneering charity dedicated to transforming the lives of people with learning disabilities through meaningful employment.
With fewer than 5% of people with learning disabilities in paid work across the UK, this group faces the largest employment gap in the country. Mission EmployAble is working to change that – empowering young people to move beyond the revolving door of short courses and unpaid roles, and into sustainable careers that offer dignity, purpose, and independence.
A Vision for Inclusion
Mission EmployAble’s vision is bold and inclusive: a society where people with learning disabilities are fully involved in every way. Its work focuses on bridging the gap between education and employment, ensuring that young people don’t fall through the cracks once formal schooling ends.
The charity runs a community café, which serves as a training facility for young adults aged 18-25 with a learning disability. The charity’s nine-month supported internship programme, delivered in partnership with the Buckinghamshire Education Group, trains these young people to become employable, equipping them with the skills and confidence to find paid work on completion of the programme.
Sustaining Success
Our funding will support the recruitment of Mission EmployAble’s first Follow-on Job Coach – a vital role that will maintain contact with interns and their employers for up to five years after placement. This long-term support will help anticipate challenges, provide ongoing training, and ensure placements are successful and enduring.
A Shared Commitment
This partnership aims to help more young people with learning disabilities sustain long-term, paid employment, and build a more inclusive society for all. The charity already has links with Super 1s, the disability cricket programme delivered by our Strategic Partner Lord’s Taverners, and we look forward to building on our joint work together.
