Crisis has recently opened an online shop to help with fundraising. Our volunteering day was at the Crisis warehouse in Elephant & Castle where the clothing, shoes and accessories are sorted, photographed and listed on various e-commerce websites.
The day started with meeting the Crisis staff and members of the public who frequently volunteer their time as clothes processors and photographers. All the staff were friendly and helpful when teaching us our tasks for the day.
There were four Berkeley staff members that volunteered for this opportunity. We were initially split into two groups with one group helping to move furniture and ‘out of season’ stock. Myself and Louise were tasked with checking measurements of processed clothes to ensure the clothes are accurately listed on the Crisis website.
Following lunch we all helped to sort clothes and shoes so that they can be quickly processed when sold online.
The volunteering was extremely rewarding and we all left with a sense of accomplishment. Not only was this an opportunity to help give back, it was also a chance to meet colleagues from different branches of the Berkeley Group. I would recommend the volunteer day to anyone who is interested in getting involved with helping an important cause.
