On 16th June, Alexander Lord from Berkeley St Edward set off on the well-travelled Land's End to John O'Groats route, along with two friends: James Tyson from KPMG and Robert Fenwick from 1st Central.
But they did so not on a bike each, but on a triplet bike - similar to a tandem but for 3 people! They set out on the mammoth 900 mile route together with their support team, hoping to complete the challenge in six days. This meant 15 hours a day in the saddle...
The team not only completed the challenge, but successfully recorded the fastest ever journey from Lands' End to John O'Groats by Triplet bicycle, beating the previous world record by 4 hours!
The official finishing time was 6 days, 9 hours and 35 minutes. For the cycling enthusiasts out there, here are the stats; 876 miles, 41,279 ft of ascent (Everest 29,029 ft for scale), 153 gruelling hours and 3 dangerously sore backsides.
Alex was looking to raise over £1,500 for The Lord's Taverners charity, and to date the team has raised more than double their initial overall target of £3,000.
"The three of us are hugely grateful for the opportunities we've had over the years and feel strongly that everyone should be afforded a chance to enjoy the simple things and be able to access support when it is needed."
About the charity
The Lord's Taverners help young people in the UK living in poverty or with a disability. They aim to create more "Sporting Chances" for young people who would never get a chance to experience the enjoyment that sport gives, which many of us take for granted.
This year they have already given over 10,000 young people a sporting chance in either their Disability Cricket Programmes or their Wicketz programme for young people. Running alongside these programmes The Lord's Taverners provide kit through their recycling schemes, mini bus and wheelchair donations and Sensory Sports and Play Enabling Facilities.
