CARAS - Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Growing numbers of young people seeking asylum face detention and deportation and are especially vulnerable to homelessness due to rapid policy changes. CARAS supports young people in South West London to succeed in all areas of their lives, focusing on building connections and community, boosting their ability to thrive in education, and offering advice and guidance to help them understand their rights and address, immigration, housing and leaving care.

82% of young people supported by CARAS last year reported moving into education, training or work.

Our funding will support the recruitment of a new Fundraising Officer who will focus on maximising donations from supporters. The role will free up Director time to focus on strategy development.

Jamie Charnock, Head of Development and Impact at CARAS, comments:

“We’re delighted to partner with the Berkeley Foundation through their Resilience Fund. The intersection of policy changes and the cost-of-living crisis has created unparalleled challenges for the young people we work with, and support from the Resilience Fund will provide us with the unique opportunity to focus on diversifying our income streams and re-strategise at this pivotal moment. As a result, we’ll be able to run a more agile and adaptable service capable of delivering transformative outcomes for young people across south London.”
