Women into Construction provides practical support and training to women wishing to enter the construction industry, aiming to diversify the workforce.
Construction output in London and the West Midlands is expected to grow by 1.5% and 1.8% respectively between 2018 and 2022. Yet, women represent only 13.5% of the workforce. Funding from the Berkeley Foundation will enable Women into Construction to pilot two new approaches to engage diverse groups of young women into careers in construction. The project will work with college leavers in Barking & Dagenham and women leaving the care system in the City of Birmingham.
The project will provide construction-specific career advice and guidance for 60 young women, followed by technical training, supported work placements and brokerage into employment.
